Being aware of hormonal and physical changes a girl teen goes through is also an important way of growing up. During teenage the best thing to do is to get help, share your thoughts and support other friends everyday.

Everyday the media keeps telling you that there is something wrong with your bodies, but this is not really true. This has caused a lot of hypersensitivity among the teens about how their body looks. Speak to the youth properly about the changes in their bodies, it is important to tell them that what they are going through is extremely normal. In the early years, it is very important to make them feel that they are normal and that everyone goes through these stages.

Now a days it is very normal to have irregular periods, the reasons vary from nutrient deficiency, dieting, over-exercising or athletics, genetics to lifestyle. Periods are not constantly a 28 day cycle, as ovaries sometimes develop at different rates. Sometimes you can have symptoms like food cravings, acne, bloating, mood swings and so on.

Following are the Stages of Female Development:

The Age around 8-11, this when your brain releases hormones that are important to create the characteristics of a woman’s body. In this first stage, the main functions of it include the maturing ovaries that can create a proper menstrual flow and childbearing function.

During the age between 8-14, physical changes take place, including breast development, pubic hair, and gain in height and weight.

During the age between 9-15 the outward physical changes continue to happen. There is the development of breasts, pubic hair and increase in height. The hormonal level in the body fluctuates and causes vaginal discharge. Hormonal fluctuation is also caused due to the start of menstrual cycle. Incase of PMS, the symptoms occur, they usually can be controlled with diet and exercise.

During the age of 10-16 the body becomes more mature, there is development of areola, increase in pubic and underarm hair. The ovaries also grow and start producing eggs. This is when some girls experience their first menstrual cycle.

Between the ages of 15-19 If the child has not yet experienced the first menstrual cycle, then it could begin during this stage. Annual physical exams during and after this stage are recommended to monitor the overall health and maturity process.
