Adolescence - problems related to growing

Unhealthy eating patterns can often create problems which can lead to an eating disorder. This is very common phenomenon among teenage girls. Most of the teenagers are obsessed about becoming thin. They begin to harm their body by stopping to eat. Poor nutrition can harm their body organs. This is a very serious problem. This tends to affect them mentally as well and could also lead to depression and anxiety. Overeating could be an eating disorder as well.

There are some people who find refuge in food to hide their mental disturbance. This is also an indication of suffering from an eating disorder.

The three types of eating disorder are:

Anorexia:

This is a psychological disorder. This can be mostly seen in teenage girls. Anorexia could happen due to low self esteem or emotional or physical abuse. Some people might have the obsession to become thin and due to this they start dieting without a reason. In the process, they may lose weight and they would be motivated to even lose more weight. The more they lose weight, the more they have the drive to push further. Teenagers then stop worrying about their body. Their focus is only in losing weight. They starve to take control over the body. Many teenagers start neglecting their health. This could also lead to death in some cases. Some teenagers develop psychological fear of food and fatness. This goes to the extent of vomiting out anything and everything which they consume. Some people also begin using laxatives for reducing weight.

Bulimia:

Bulimia is similar to anorexia. Here the person becomes obsessed about growing thin. Some people may binge on food. Some people might throw up everything they ate. Some people may first eat a large amount of food. Later they may indulge in rich food within a short period of time. Later, they force themselves to vomit. Some people may also start exercising excessively. They could use laxatives. Some people fast to make up for the food they ate. This happens when they feel guilty about the food they ate. Bulimia is most common thing in adolescent and young women.

Unlike anorexia where a person stops eating, bulimic people eat their food. However, they either force themselves to vomit or to use laxatives.

Some of the common health problems which are related to Anorexia/Bulimia are:

Compulsive eating:

When a person starts binging, they are called compulsive eaters. This is unlike bulimia where the person involves purging. In this case, the person has an urge to eat all the time. About 40 percent of people who are fat are binge eaters.

Here are some common signs of a compulsive eater:
