Anorexia nervosa

Today, the advances in technology and fast paced developments in society have revolutionized thought process of many people. With the advent of advertising and promotions, some young women have come to a conclusion that being thin is everything. Today, when teenager's svelte models, they get an impression that they must also become like that. Some thin-reed models and actresses create an impression among young teens especially among females.

Being thin is not about the question of good, bad, right or wrong. You need to keep your weight with the level of height you are at. This will benefit your health. The problem starts when a teenaged girl is hell bent on being thin. They will resort to drastic measures such as starving to death for becoming thin. This is called Ameroxia nervosa. In the United States, about 8 million Americans are estimated to have eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa is one of these types of weight reduction methods adopted by young girls.

A person who is suffering from anorexia nervosa is called as an anorexic. An anorexic has the fear of getting more weight. To lose the additional kilos of weight, the teenaged girl limits her food intake. Such girls stop eating the normal meals which should be consumed everyday. In extreme cases, person having anorexic will skip eating food totally. Girls suffering from Anorexia nervosa will literally fast and have a rigid exercise regimen. The problem with an anorexic they look at mirror and thinks she looks fat. This thinking occurs even if the girl is thin and underweight. Anorexia nervosa is not about the person having problem with her food intake but the disorder could occur due to a number of factors. These factors affect not only the biological but also the psychological and socio-cultural aspects of the person who is anorexic. Here the biological aspect implies the genetic links of the anorexic. These could be any relative like mother or sister. These people are likely to suffer from an eating disorder. Psychological aspect would be the character and attitude of the anorexic. According to studies, some teenagers suffering from anorexia nervosa also suffer from low self-esteem. The person is not very confident with herself. The person also attempts to achieve perfection by becoming thin. The socio-cultural aspects are things like home and school environment of the person who is anorexic. A young girl who keeps getting comments on her appearance from her family or friends tends to become affected and be more conscious about the looks. Just to win their hearts, she would try to starve and reduce her weight.

Anorexia nervosa is a health problem. This can be prevented or treated. If you are suffering from it, you can take medical help from doctors and clear the disorder in your body.
